A shout out!

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

Apple said in their copy to developers once that the better an iPhone app icon looks, the more chance it has of being listed on the front page of iTunes. That hasn’t happened to me yet, but I found a great graphic designer to do the icons for PhotoUpLink, VideoUpLink and Torus. He is currently helping me with the new achievement icons for Torus, my placeholder programmer art doesn’t look so great. So be prepared to have your Facebook page (hopefully) festooned with those annoying Farmville/Mafia Wars style postings but this time from Torus, with gorgeous icons. I feel fortunate to have his services, he is a major player. Neil is always available for graphic design and art work, check out his site for more information.

All domain redirections completed!

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

Kagi hosts the main storefront where you can buy licenses for my desktop products. iPhone purchasing is handled through iTunes. The disparate domain situation is the result of 10 years of gypsy development but the new platform for future growth is now in place. All domains now lead to Rome…

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

It went off almost without a hitch, but the world kept spinning even though photouplink.com was in name server purgatory for a while. But here we are! uplink.to officially launches July 21st, next Wednesday, with the new version of PhotoUpLink for iPhone to follow soon after. Thanks for your help Uncle Dave!

Developing with the UpLink Network

Friday, June 25th, 2010

Drop this routine in a convenient location in your Xcode project to add uplink.to/ URL shortening to your application.

-(NSString*)shortenURL:(NSString*)url
{
  CFStringRef legalStr = CFSTR("!@#$%^&()<>?{},;'[]");
  NSString *escUrl = (NSString*)CFURLCreateStringByAddingPercentEscapes(kCFAllocatorDefault,
 (CFStringRef)url, NULL, legalStr, kCFStringEncodingUTF8);
  NSString *apiEndpoint = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"http://uplink.to/uplinkto.php?longurl=%@",escUrl];
  NSError* error;
  NSString* shortURL = [NSString stringWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL URLWithString:apiEndpoint]
 encoding:NSASCIIStringEncoding error:&error];
  if (shortURL)
   return shortURL;
  else
   return [error localizedDescription];
}
